William K. Cobb of Indianapolis passed away on May 6, 2019, one month shy of his 80th birthday. Bill was born in 1939 in Madison County, KY, to Myrtle and Noel Cobb. Bill married the love of his life, Nedra Clark Cobb, in July 1960, who preceded his death in 2015.
Bill graduated from Lapel High School, where he played basketball and ran track. He remained an avid supporter of the Lapel basketball program, rarely missing a game. He attended Anderson University before he embarked on a career with General Motors Guide Lamp, and then Allison Transmissions, where he retired as Director of Safety and Security.
Although Bill retired at 53, he remained very active throughout his life. Bill will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His joy was to be with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bill never missed one of their sports or activities if he could help it.
Bill took pride in his home in Ivy Hills and his house on Lake Lemon, where you could always find him boating, tinkering in the garage, or working in the yard. He was a car enthusiast throughout his life; most recently, you could see him driving around town in his convertible Corvette. His other hobbies included fishing, snowmobiling, and watching Colts and Pacer games. Bill always had a positive attitude and never met a stranger.
Bill was preceded in death by Nedra, his wife of 54 years; brothers Harold and Malcolm; and grandson Lance Hendrickson. He is survived by daughters Carrie Cobb Boyd (George) and Morgan Duffy (Chris); grandchildren Leif Hendrickson (Kara), Melissa Kennedy (Andrew), Celine Boyd, Will Duffy, Meredith Duffy; two great-grandchildren, Parker and Rose Kennedy; and brother, Ken Cobb.
Family and friends are invited to gather in Bill’s memory for a calling on Wednesday, May 8, from 4 – 8 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, with funeral service on Thursday, May 9, at 11 am, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, tune-up your car and check the air pressure in your tires – he would have wanted that.

Carrie & Morgan, Your Dad was very special to us. We couldn’t have had a better neighbor. We have so many great memories, snowmobiling, spending Friday nights on our deck & his patio, going to Nascar races, traveling to Florida & being at Lake Lemon. He loved working in the yard & would walk over with a water bottle and say “break time!” He will be greatly missed….but he and your mother will always be in our hearts. I worked with Bill for a few years after he retired from GM at a small company called EQC, Inc. Bill was a great guy and we had a lot of great conversations around fishing, boating and cars. It has been a while since we last spoke, but I really enjoyed my times with Bill. What a great human. He was always so positive and happy. He will be missed. I am grateful and honored I got to know Bill.
My condolences to the entire family for you loss.
