Billie Burch Myers “William”, 90, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at his son’s house in Indianapolis.  After suffering from declining health due to a stroke in early 2016, he and Miriam moved to Indiana to be with family.  William was born in Harrisburg, Arkansas, January 27, 1926 to Willie Terry and Burch Leonard Myers, and was one of seven children.

William joined the US Marine Corps at age 18 and served in WWII.  After leaving the service in 1946, he received his BS from Arkansas State College and MS from The University of Nebraska.  During his time in Lincoln, he met his future wife, Miriam Sinner.  They were married in 1956 and in May of 2016 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  William and Miriam have four (4) children, John David Myers, Rebecca Sue Hoover, Paul William (Ann) Myers, all of Indianapolis and Mary Beth (Shawn) Britton of Orlando, FL.  William has three grandchildren (Alicia Hoover, Ben Britton, and Bethany Britton).

William settled his family in Carmel, Indiana in 1971 after moving from Nebraska to New Mexico and Colorado (always in pursuit of a better opportunity) and would remain in Carmel until he retired in 1991 to Mountain Home.  He worked for Equitable Life and the Indiana Environmental Agency.  William had continued Military service through various branches of the service and retired in 1986 as a Chief Warrant Officer.

William was a very hard worker and instilled that value in his children.  He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping, bird watching and bee keeping.   He obtained his pilot’s license and many other certifications over the years as he was always finding something new to study.  He was an active tennis player and celebrated his 90th birthday on the tennis courts in Mountain Home – competitive until the end.  He and Miriam were active members of Redeemer Lutheran Church and participated in many church activities over the years.

William did not give up easily, but finally let go to be with the Lord Jesus.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Miriam, his children and grandchildren, two sisters: Verna Myers Manning (Oklahoma) and Joyce Myers Healey (Arkansas).  He is also survived by numerous loving family members including cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.  He was predeceased by his parents, his two brothers, Chester Myers and Charles Myers and sisters, Maxine Myers Steele and Maida Myers Elliott, and daughter in-law, Barbara Stewart Myers.

William finally has the ultimate treasure that he was always chasing, but may not have realized, which is being in heaven with Jesus.  He will be missed and the stories of his life will continue on for generations to come.
