Willa Mae Green, age 92, was born to Wilburn and Mary Ella Howard on December 28, 1923 at General Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She would make Indianapolis her home for the next 92 years.
She attended St. Bridges Catholic School, where she completed her elementary education. She would later attend Crispus Attucks High School for her primary education. Once she left high school, she started her life’s journey. She was employed at Community Hospital and would soon become a full time homemaker.
She soon would be blessed with a family to start her own legacy. She would marry the love of her life, Roy Albert Green, for 37 years. She was the mother of two sons, Charles Howard, Sr. and James Howard, and four daughters, Donzella “Jill” Green, Anna Mae Green-Banks, Jacqueline “Sue” Jackson and Mary Ellen Green-Holman. She also was a grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her only sister, Lula Catherine Howard; husband, Roy Albert Green; and children, James Micheal Howard, Donzella “Jill” Green, and Mary Ellen Green-Holman.
She was baptized at St. Mark Baptist Church and also attended Eastside Baptist Church.
She was lovingly known as the “General” by the family because she was definitely the shot caller!!!
She has many interests: reading her bible daily, cooking, gardening, sewing, listening to her favorite group “Earth, Wind, and Fire”, and shopping on the QVC Network. Her favorite past-time was spending time with family and sharing her stories and recipes.
Mrs. Willa Mae Green departed this life on April 3, 2016 at the age of 92 years, 3 months, and 6 days.
She leaves to cherish her memory 3 children, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
The “General,” as she was affectionately known, will always be greatly missed, loved, and cherished by all of her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 11 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time.
