
Vernon LeRoy Jones, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away July 18, 2014. He was born to John P. and Alma (Cross) Jones in Mystic, Iowa on June 30, 1918. He married Agnes Marion Smith on January 13, 1946. While serving in the Pacific during WWII, Vernon was awarded: Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars; Victory Medal and Bronze Star Medal. He worked for DuPont in Clinton, Iowa for 10 years and then 25 years for Olin Matheson in Brevard, North Carolina and Covington, Indiana. A member of Dunn’s Rock Masonic Lodge, Brevard, North Carolina and Valley of Terre Haute Scottish Rite Freemasonry, he received a 60 Year Diamond Jubilee Masonic Service Award. His hobbies were painting, reading and woodworking. He is survived by his beloved wife, Agnes; daughters, Nancy Yuochunas and Patti Bardos; son-in-law, David Bardos; grandchildren, Leslie (Yuochunas) Marlatt, husband Marc, Michael Bardos, wife Jenny, and Michelle (Bardos) Hewitt, husband Mathew; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 sisters, Opal and Helen and his son-in-law George Yuochunas.
