Tomm R. Staley, 80, died Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen Kuhn Staley; daughters, Julia Krause and Beth (Brian) Bakemeyer; son David Staley; sister Geraldine Staley; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Dorothy (Nash) Staley.
A life-long resident of Indianapolis, Tomm graduated from Thomas Carr Howe high school in 1955 and Purdue University in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations. Most of his working life was with insurance companies, leaving Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 1988 to create Staley & Staley Medical Management Corp. He retired after 14 years and settled into life at home, reading his books, the Mackinac Island Town Crier newspaper, and enjoying Railfan & Railroad magazines.
Tomm was very active in the Irvington community, serving on the Irvington Community Council, helping with the Halloween Festival parade for many years and serving as a poll worker for local, state, and national elections. He also served on the Thomas Carr Howe Alumni Board of Directors.
Tomm’s sense of humor will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and associates.
We are grateful to the staff of Southern Care Hospice and Right at Home for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Tomm during his final days.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org.
A Celebration of Life will be held in September.
