Thomas Vincent Doyle

68, peacefully passed away on August 30, 2015. Tom was born in Indianapolis to Harry and Katie (Prieshoff) Doyle on August 29, 1947. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother Joseph Doyle, aunts Mary Doyle and Margaret Doyle. He is survived by his loving wife Gina (Frajola) Doyle; son Brian Doyle; brother Denny (Kathy) Doyle; sister Trish (Bob Field) Farley; sister Sharon (Mike) Cesnik; friend John Taylor; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends.

Tom was raised in Speedway, Indiana. He went to grade school at St. Christopher, followed by Cathedral High School and Latin School in Indianapolis. He spent one year at seminary after high school, studying to be a priest. He changed his mind about priesthood and finished college at Marian University. Tom completed graduate school at Ball State and earned an EdS degree from Butler.

Tom spent his career in education as a school psychologist and a Special Education Director. He worked in Lebanon, Indianapolis Public Schools, Hamilton-Boone-Madison Special Education Coop, Pike Township and Warren Township. Tom’s gift to education was fostering creativity and collaborative work environments. He started, or was part of, many innovative projects throughout his career. He mentored several young Special Education administrators, and was a past president of ICASE. Tom was also known for his booming voice, his willingness to share everything he knew, and his commitment to doing the right thing for students. Tom was a visionary in his field and started initiatives in education that continue today.

Tom and Gina spent much of their free time travelling across the U.S. hiking in national parks, exploring cities and towns, and sharing adventures along the way. Tom loved to discuss politics and current events with friends and family. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the Indianapolis Colts. Tom was very close to his family and his happiest memories were spent on vacations with family and any time spent with his siblings, aunts, niece, nephews, and cousins.
Tom lived life to the fullest, and he will be dearly missed.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday September 19 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church at 11:00 am with visitation at the church at 10:00am. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Tom and Gina’s home from 1:00pm to 4:00pm the same day. Arrangements are being handled by Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. Brilliant, funny and self effacing are some words to describe my dear colleague, mentor and friend. Tom had many ground breaking ideas, but he never needed or expected personal accolades for the fine work he did. Once an idea was in operation, he was on to the next one….but never leaving behind the friendships made along the way. Those of us who knew and loved him are forever changed by having had him in our lives.

When my dear friend Gina brought Tom to New Mexico to meet us for the first time, I was thrilled to discover how much he adored Gina. I think it would be hard not to like Tom immediately. His open, animated spirit was evident right away. Such happiness for Gina and Tom that they found each other and enjoyed every drop of love and adventure they could. I am sure Tom is entertaining the angels with his joyous spirit and laughter.
