Teeka Spelley, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was born April 1, 1924 and died May 22, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Wareham, of Indianapolis; her son, Mark Spelley, of Portland, Oregon; her grandchildren, Russell Wareham, Schuyler Wareham, Paige Wareham, Blake Wareham and Emily Wareham, of Carmel and Indianapolis; her great-grandchildren, Chloe Wareham, Jack Wareham, and Jude Wareham, of Carmel; her first cousin, Lillian Mardis, of Akron, Ohio; and her best friend, Maria Struzas, of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Spelley, who died in 1987.
Teeka was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and later moved to Los Angeles, California, where she started and raised her family. In 1981, she moved to Las Vegas, where she remained until being admitted to hospice in her daughter’s Indianapolis home approximately two months before her death.
Known as “Yayia” by her grandchildren and others, Teeka was revered as an active, spunky, generous and at times stubborn individual. Each of these qualities made for an adventurous life, both for Teeka as well as for those around her. There was rarely a dull day spent with her. She loved living in Las Vegas, where she frequented the casinos to gamble, enjoy nice restaurants, and attend live shows and concerts with friends. Always the classy one, Teeka was never caught without her bright pink lipstick applied, and she was never known to wear any casual attire. She valued the “nice things” in life, and she very much appreciated good taste. Here generous and adventurous spirit will be sorely missed.

Ruth Lockwood says
Teeka and I were co-workers at Fedco in Van Nuys for several years.
We communicated each Christmas since she moved to Vegas.
This year (2014) I did not receive her Christmas card and found her obit. on line.
I will miss hearing from her. She was a fun, caring lady that was so proud of her family.
She will be missed.
