
Sue Barlow, of Indianapolis, passed away October 15, 2015. Born July 19, 1941, she was a native of Indianapolis and grew up loving dogs and horses. She attended Marion College (now Marion University) and graduated in 1963 with a BS in Science. She worked at Dow Chemical (formerly Pitman Moore) in Zionsville as a Research Scientist until she left to raise her family. She later worked for ProPac Dog Foods as a nutrition specialist and product consultant. She married Fred Barlow on February 26, 1964 and passed her love of animals along to her daughters, Lora and Jennifer.
Sue bred collies under the kennel name “Wingate” and most notably winning Best of Variety at the 1970 Collie Club of America Specialty show and Best in Show at the International Kennel Club (Mattoon, Illinois) show with her beloved Drummer Boy. She was licensed as an AKC judge and particularly enjoyed judging and mentoring youth in the Junior Showmanship ring. She continued her passion for mentoring young people as a 4H volunteer. She served 4H for over 35 years as a Marion County dog club leader and Indiana State dog committee member. Her love of and commitment to the 4H dog show program will continue through a memorial scholarship that is being established in her name.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Fred; her daughters, Lora and Jennifer; her grandchildren Drew, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Logan, and Sydney; and her cherished service dog Buddy. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250 with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm.
