
Sanford “Bud” Tinch 87, passed away on July 23, 2015 in Indianapolis. Bud was born on July 1, 1928, in Jamestown, TN. He grew up in Pine Knot, KY, the son of a coal miner/lumberman in the hills of eastern Kentucky. Sanford is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Joan Westnidge whom he married on February 22, 1954.
Sanford is also survived by his children Sanford W. Tinch III (Debbie); Shelley W. Hendrix (Rob); David Joe Tinch (Toni); Brenda J. Hamrick (John); Beverley S. McQueary (Terry); and Douglas P. Tinch (Susan).
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren who loved “Poppy.” They are Staven Tinch, Sorsha Tinch, Katie (Hendrix) Metz, Jessica (Hendrix) Mattax, Cassie (Hendrix) Green, Alisha (Hamrick) Stokes, Alex Hamrick, Adam McQueary, Amanda McQueary and Mason Tinch. Six great-grandchildren also survive.
As a teenager, Bud worked in Chicago factories and on the railroad in southern Indiana. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army. Through his years of employment he worked for Mechanics Laundry, was a manager of a Hoosier Pete service station, but worked primarily as a carpenter and organizer for the Carpenter’s Local Union 60, where he served as president.
Bud also was a member of Centre Lodge#23 F&AM and was a Past Master. He was also a past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star.
From his childhood, Bud was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and grandsons. He was an excellent gardener who generously shared his delicious tomatoes with friends and family. He loved his family more than anything. Each one of us will hold special memories in our hearts forever.
Final arrangements are being handled by Indiana Funeral Services. A private family service will be held. In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centre #23 Masonic Lodge.
