Ruth Ellen Long

January 6, 1941 to June 23, 2017

Ruth Long passed away at the age of 76 at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Mayme and Edwin Pass, and her brothers John Pass and Jim Pass. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Kenneth D Long; daughters, Deborah Ellen Turley (Brian) of Greenwood, IN, Laura Ann Shears of Okemos, MI.; brothers, Joseph and Thomas Pass; sister, Carol Vogt (Bill); grandsons, Eric F. Deem (Brooke),  Kenneth L. Stark; granddaughters, Samantha Shears, Allison Shears, Joey Shears; and a great granddaughter, Mackenzie Ellen Deem; plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Because of their keen interest in running activities, Ruth and her husband started Runners Forum, a specialty store for runners and walkers. After 10 years the business was sold and Ken Long & Associates was formed to devote full time to competitive runs and walks and coaching programs. Ruth’s motto throughout her cancer was to: “Keep Calm & Carry On”.

Cremation arrangements have been made through Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory. There will be no services. Donations may be made to Southside Animal Shelter of Indianapolis, IN.

Although she has just reached the finish line of her last race, she is now at another starting line.

She was a wonderful teacher, friend, and most of all, mother. She touched so many people in so many ways. I can’t think of a single person that she didn’t treat with respect and dignity…and a good joke.
Mom will be missed by so many, but not more than by her loving husband and two daughters.

I, her oldest daughter Deb will miss her terribly.

It was truly an honor and a privilege to care for Ruth. She made me laugh, she made me cry, and we had so much fun together in such a short time. I will remember all her words of wisdom that she passed on to me. I will finally remember your whole family period thank you for the honor of caring for Ruth it was truly my pleasure

I had the honor of being a friend of Ruths. She touched many peoples lives and loved by all. I know all of us in the running community will feel a great loss.
I’ll surely miss her secret recipe Bloody Marys in the tent at the mini marathon.😋
    Prayers to Ken and daughters.
