Ruth Ann Pennington Carrel, 79, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017. Ruth was born on October 2, 1937 to Charles Pennington and Martha Huddleson Pennington Rhude in Indianapolis, IN.
Ruth was raised by her grandparents, Alvie and Ruth Huddleson. She did very well in school and graduated when she was 16-years-old. She was the oldest of thirteen children and truly enjoyed helping to care for her brothers and sisters. She carried this love for family throughout her entire life, and will be remembered for her steadfast loyalty, love, and kindness to her family and friends. She will also be remembered for her immaculate housekeeping, her effortless strength in any challenge, and for being a die-hard Neil Diamond fan.
She loved spending time with family and all of her life-long friends, and she enjoyed her annual trips to California and Florida with family. She worked as a secretary for many years before she started her own business, Chico’s Bicycle Shop, which she owned and operated with family. Never one to sit still, she also did housecleaning services well into her seventies.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Ralph; her parents; brothers, Bill and Danny; and sister, Donna. She is survived by her children, Matthew (Paula) Carrel and Marnie Carrel-Maluck; her four grandchildren, Amelia (Robert) Mijach, Isaac Carrel, Owen Carrel, and Cody Maluck; her greatgranddaughter, Cora Jane Mijach; sisters, Sally, Sue, Shirley, Peggy and Marcie; brothers, Randy, Terry, Mike, and Robin; and many nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and family friends.
