Robert (Bob) of Indianapolis passed away at age 92, January 23, 2018. Bob went to join his wife, Shirley, for eternal life with our Heavanly Father peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in “God’s country” Wisconsin he would tell all . Born to Ivan and Florence (Housefield) Martin in East Troy, his enlistment in the Army took him to serve during the Korean conflict. After returning from duty, he settled in Indianapolis marrying his sweater girl, Shirley Scarbrough, after one date. His career as a data processor at Detroit Desiel Allisons started at plant one in Speedway. Further advancements in the early computer days took him to plant eight where he retired. During his working years, he held a part-time job at Central Hardware as providing for his family was paramount.
After retirement, Bob and Shirley enjoyed travels with AARP that brought many years of scapbooks, photos and memories. An American flag adorned each home through the years as a daily salute could be witnessed by all. Even as his vision failed, a salute to a vague image flying high on a well lit pole out his window was observed.
Bob is survived by his three children, Diana, Debra and David of Indianapolis. Grandchildren and great-randchildren brought him great joy listening to stories of changing technologies. The many stories we all recieved will be engraved in our hearts as this great man imparted wisdom in our souls. Bob’s social media was a typewriter. If you were ever a recipient of one of Bob’s heartfelt greetings, it was a well adorned masterpiece from a blind man, stickers and all. They always contained weather updates, news and of course the status of his cat! He loved his cat. The imprint on our souls is deep as a proud veteran embraced life’s changes with dignity and support. Living through the depression humbles a heart to respect the value of a dollar, appreciate what you have and there is always someone worse off.
Service is at 4 pm on January 29, 2018, visitation our hour prior. God Bless
