Robert (Bob) Sauer, Sr, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Community Hospital North. He was born in Indianapolis on May 29, 1933, to Lorene Jeffers Sauer of Huntingburg, and Henry Nathan Sauer of Madison, who preceded him in death.
The memorial service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, May 29 Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. Rev. Rob Mifflin of Community Home Health Hospice Services will officiate. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. to Noon just prior to the service.
Bob graduated from Tech High School, served in the United States Navy and earned a Business degree from Marian College. He spent most of his career working as a systems analyst at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 36 years.
Along with being a family man, Bob enjoyed flying and refurbishing WWII era airplanes. One cherished gift that Bob passed along to his children was his love of music and singing in harmony. He liked all kinds of music, but especially Bluegrass, Big Band, and Classical. He was known for his Christmas fudge, his love of a good joke – especially if it involved a pun, and his warm hospitality to all who came to visit. He was an exemplary dad, grandpa and friend and will be sorely missed by all of us.
Bob was married to Janet Yvonne Vlantis Sauer for 48 years until her death and leaves three children – Michelle Sauer Lori of Louisville, KY, Bob Sauer, Jr. (Amanda) of Hendersonville, TN, Joel Sauer (Kathy) of Indianapolis – and twelve grandchildren – Chie, Adam, and Hanae Togami; Cory, Victoria, Kendall and Jamie Sauer; Lynnette (Andy Weber), Jessica, Andrew, Emily and Eric Sauer, along with many family and friends to cherish his memory. Bob’s sister, Charlotte Sauer, brothers, Hank and Fred Sauer, and granddaughter Angela Sauer also preceded him in death.
Condolences may be given at IndianaFuneralCare.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts suggested to Community Home Health Hospice Services, 9894 E 121st St, Fishers, IN, 46037 or favorite charity. The family wishes to thank the Hospice team for the tremendous care extended to Bob and to us during his challenging time of illness.

Sending deepest sympathy to the Sauer family. The Chadwick and Sauer families were friends for many years. Although it has been many years since I saw Bob, I do remember his sense of humor and his friendship with my uncle Virgil and my dad, Ted. Praying that God bring your family the comfort and strength to get through this difficult time.

Uncle Bob, may you rest in peace and say hello to Aunt Janet for me. My deepest sympathy and condolences to Cousins Bob, Joel and Michelle. Sorry I can not convey these in person. I just read about a local (Arlington, TX) group that lost their facility where they restored vintage aircraft and were looking for help to get into another facility. I will make a donation in Uncle Bob’s name in lieu of sending flowers.

I recently read about the loss of your dear loved one. Although we are not acquainted personally, please accept my condolences. Losing a dear loved one can leave a very empty space in one’s life. Please find strength, hope, and comfort in the God of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4).

Prayers for God’s healing touch through this time. Know that your Mill Race Marathon family is with you in thought if not in presence.
