My husband Chuck and I met Rick and the family at the t-ball field in Iwakuni, Japan. We spent our first tour there together, but we weren’t close until we got orders to go back again. I called an ad in the base paper about a Van and when we went to the door Rick was standing there! I knew then that we found friends! After that we were inseparable! We spent Holidays, Birthdays, Christmas, Cub Games, Dancing at the Club and DJ Gigs together! It was some of the best times of our life…. thanks to our dear friend Ricky. I love you my friend and I will miss seeing you, but I know you will always be close🍃🌺🍃❤️🍃

I want to express my deepest condolences for the loss of Rick. I am so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to the friend and family. I want to give some hope at this time that’s at John 5: 28,29 – “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgement.”
The bible talks about a time when those we’ve lost will be reunited with us. The bible offers a hope a hope of seeing them again in a resurrection. If you need more comfort in this time please visit JW.org, which has more encouraging thoughts and hope from the bible. Again I want to express my deepest condolences.

It is with great sadness I recently learned of the passing of my old friend Rick. My most sincere, heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Rick and I were stationed together while serving in the Marines for the entire four years of our first enlistments starting at MCAS El Toro (CA), MCAS Yuma (AZ), MCAS Iwakuni (Japan) and concluding at MSCA New River (Jacksonville, NC). I have so many stories I could share to denote Rick’s small town charm, wit and loyalty. As the rush of memories flow back, whether we were enjoying the California sunshine at Laguna Beach, visiting Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm, watching movies at a drive-in in Yuma, roller skating at a local indoor roller rink or bike riding to see Iwakuni Castle, Rick always provided great companionship. His wit and loyalty could best be remembered by a memory of when we were all running a Physical Fitness Test at El Toro. Rick could run like the wind with little to no effort and he came upon a struggling Marine. He stopped running and walked with the guy encouraging him to keep going. Unfortunately, they both failed due to not making the run in the allotted time period. Rick had to go to “remedial” training so he could pass the run. The first day of remedial training after the run, the instructor asked how on earth he failed the run? Rick explained and he was subsequently let out of remedial training the very next day. Go in peace my friend. Semper Fi Marine!

I am truly saddened to hear this now. I had the honor of knowing Gunny Stevens during my time in Yuma. I believe it was 1993, 94. He was a great man and a great Marine. My condolences go out to his family. Semper Fi and IYAOYAS
