Richard “Dickey” Gilbert
Richard Dennis Gilbert, born to Richard and Mary Alice Gilbert and August 23, 1943, died February 28, 2019. Predeceased by his parents, Dickey is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Robbie Gilbert; sons Duran, Chaka, Darius, and Damon (Courtney) and his daughter Shandra. Also left to mourn his loss are his beloved grandchildren, Jullian, Mackenzie, Elijah, Dataniel, & Minagera as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others who loved him.
After selflessly serving his country as a Marine, Dickey worked for many years at U.S. Steel and then as a commercial electrician until his retirement. After retiring, Robbie and he enjoyed many a tropical vacation, including several trips to their favorite destination of Aruba. An avid fan of jazz, he and Robbie took in countless concerts and their backyard barbeque parties were always memorable to those who attended. On Sundays though, the music would take a back seat to football and the Dallas Cowboys. A lifelong fan, Dickey very much enjoyed bantering with his family and friends in support of his team.
The family would like to thank the many special caregivers Dickey had during his illness, including his IVIG nurse Kerry and his physical therapist Katherine, who we’re sure is missing her favorite “Princess” patient. We are also grateful for the kindness and care of the entire staff at Dr. Couture and Dr. Pascuzzi’s offices.

Robbie “Precious Memories, how they linger. How they ever flood my soul”. Dickey has traveled the road we all one day must travel. Continue to look to Jesus for comfort and direction. He has fought a GOOD fight. He has finished his course. Robbie you are in our prayers. Dickey and that smiling face will be missed. We are so glad that the two of you were able to create those wonderful memories.

I’m not sure where to even start… Mr. Gilbert was such a wonderful person. I wished I could have known him, before he became ill. I’m sure he was so full of life. As one of his care givers, I looked forward to seeing him on every visit. We had some lovely conversations over the years, and lots of laughs. His love for his family, and especially for his wife Robbie, was so strong, it radiated from him. And even in his darkest days he never gave up hope. Robbie, your love and devotion to Mr. Gilbert (Dickey) was heart warming. And you alone, made his last years as comfortable and as happy, as humanly possible. My life will forever be richer, from knowing you both. All my love and blessings to you and your family.

To be absent in the body is to be present in the Lord. Robbie, know that Dickey is now in His presence and smiling that gorgeous smile! Be comforted that he had the best with you and of you and loved him some Robbie. You were his angel here on earth. Although I’m not physically close, I am just a phone call away. You have my love and my prayers.
