Renee Louise Vavul, 67, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017.

She was born October 3, 1949 to Marshall “Lowell” and Lucille (Powers) Demaree.

In her youth, Renee enjoyed spending summer vacation with family and friends at Lake Manitou in Rochester, Indiana. Renee graduated from Warren Central High School and went on to earn a Bachelor degree in Home Economics from Ball State University. She retired from Fort Benjamin Harrison as a military payroll supervisor for DFAS. She touched the lives of the many youngsters she took care of over the years. Renee was a lifelong, and extremely active member of Emerson Avenue Baptist Church, where she received the blessed assurance of eternal life.  During retirement, Renee enjoyed the company of close friends, loved working puzzles, and watching her grandchildren play various sports. Renee was a loving and selfless friend to all. She never met a stranger.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen Vavul; and son, Richard Vavul. She is survived by her son, Gregory (Carrie) Vavul; grandchildren, Allison and David Vavul, all of Nineveh, IN; sister, Penny (Chuck) Pettee; niece, Lindsay (Stuart) Moll; great-niece, Anna; great-nephew, Toben, all of Ft Collins, CO; and niece Christy Pettee of Santa Clara, CA.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., May 20, 2017, at Emerson Avenue Baptist Church, 308 N. Emerson Ave. Indianapolis. The family will greet visitors from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be given to Emerson Avenue Baptist Church in her honor.
