Raymond William Kopp, born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in Northlake, Illinois and most recently a resident of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away on January 9, 2019, at the age of 62.
Ray was born on January 17, 1956. He is survived by his devoted wife Karen (Soukup) and his loving daughter April (Cody Tilson) Kopp. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Charlene (Edwin) Hill and his brother Bruce (Paula) Kopp. He is also survived by his grandson Atlas and by his nephews Jonathan and Justin Kopp, Derrick Evans, Brian Hill and nieces Laura (Patrick) Leen and Melissa Soukup. He will be affectionately remembered by his sisters-in-law Kris Soukup and Karla (Christopher Flynn) Soukup. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Kopp, and grandparents John and Lillian (Marshall) Kopp.
Ray was a graduate of Proviso West High School, Veteran of the U.S. Army and longtime employee with the U.S. Postal Service in Illinois and Indiana. Ray was an avid gardener and cook with a great love of coffee and the large variety of Chicagoland foods and restaurants. He was a proud supporter of the White Sox and Chicago Bears. He was passionate about his views on politics, the occasional long-distance road trip, and his fellow drivers’ proper use of the highway passing lane. Ray had a wry sense of humor. He was generous and giving without hesitation. Ray taught himself computer coding early in life, was a self proclaimed “Trekkie”, enjoyed various science fiction works and possessed an innate mechanical aptitude for working with complicated equipment. He loved various pets in his life, but especially enjoyed his dog, Snickers, who he regularly shared long walks with in the neighborhood.
A memorial service will be held in the Chicago area at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Ray’s honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the American Cancer Society.
Donna Ransom says
Loving thoughts and prayers during this time, and hoping that you will find peace and comfort in knowing that Ray is no longer in pain, and no more suffering. On this day, his 63rd birthday, I pray for additional time and peach that will come in knowing he lived his life doing what he loved, and loved what he did. I am keeping you all in my prayers. God Bless!
