Phil took his last breaths on earth March 5th, 2017, as he passed peacefully in his sleep and entered into his heavenly citizenship with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
For 35 years, he lived his life with exuberance and joy. He was blessed with an analytical mind that loved to tackle difficult problems, solve all kinds of puzzles, or engage in ardent speculations on some absurd premise. His dedication was unmatched, as he gave 110% in all situations. His keen sense of humor was punctuated by an infectious and unforgettable laugh.
He was devoted to his family, and selflessly poured himself into the lives of his nine nieces and two nephews, siblings and parents. He was the go-to uncle for playing video games, light saber fights, hide-and-seek, Pokemon Go, balloon animals, origami, or special dates.
He showed compassion to all he met. With his servant heart, he was quick to see others in need and invent creative ways to help them.
He loved board games, video games, martial arts, and being outdoors. He backpacked portions of the Appalachian Trail and Grand Canyon with friends, and had a knack for partaking in great adventures.
Phil trained in martial arts at the Kogakaiden/Kogajitsu-Ryu Bujutsu Dojo, where he earned a 12th degree black belt, yelled loudly, wore 2-toed webbed ninja shoes, and fought with big Japanese swords.
He graduated from Lawrence Central High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He was employed as an IT Consultant with Apparatus.
Philip is survived by his grandmother, Joan Rawlins; his parents, Dan & Sharon Rawlins; his brothers, David (Naomi) Rawlins and Chris (Amber) Rawlins; his sisters, Kacie (Don) Sage and Stephanie Ledgerwood; and eleven nieces and nephews: Alicia, Brandon, Sarah, Morgan, Ava, Addison, Grant, Kira, Regan, Laila and Amelie. He is also survived by his Siberian Husky, Shiva.

To Phil’s family,I extend my sincere condolences and prayers for God to comfort you during this time. Phil, was my Master in martial arts. I enjoyed many conversations with Phil, during the 6 years that I knew him. I am blessed to be able to call him a great friend. I gleaned much wisdom from Phil in martial arts, as well as witness his walk in Christ, as a fellow Christian brother. From his teaching in class, to the lessons on different types of sushi, to what the word “bonzai” really meant,to that Japanese puzzle box, watching us all figure it out… he always wanted us to learn something new, to appreciate the little things and had fun watching us learn. Being far away from my own brother, Phil always made me feel welcomed and included from day one.
