Patricia J. Flowers of Carmel, IN, died Thursday, June 9. Born July 15, 1951, Patricia was the daughter of deceased parents Billy G. Flowers of Corbin, KY, and Cecily Shryock Flowers of Bar Harbor, ME; and was the former wife of Steven E. Hicks of Carmel, IN. She attended Corbin (KY) High School, graduating in 1969. She received her doctorate in educational leadership from Indiana University; principal’s certification from Butler University; a master’s degree in secondary education/psychology from the University of Louisville, and a bachelor’s degree in English/psychology from Eastern Kentucky University.

Dr. Flowers enjoyed teaching English in Louisville, KY (1973-1986), at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, Jesse Stuart High School, and Assumption High School, and also in Carmel, IN, at Carmel High School (1986-1999). She served as assistant principal at Southport High School (1999-2003) and as principal of Connersville High School (2003-2013).

She is survived by sons, Michael A. Hicks and daughter-in-law Megan Brennan Hicks of Chicago, IL, and Steven P. Hicks and daughter-in-law Karen Smith Hicks of Fishers, IN, as well as four grandsons. She is also survived by sisters Dr. Susan Carpenter of Louisville, KY; and Rachael Sharp of Bar Harbor, ME, as well as four nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation for two hours prior. The family requests that in lieu of flowers and gifts, please consider donating to the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center, c/o IU Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Research, P.O. Box 7072, Indianapolis, IN 46207.

    The world lost amazing gift to education, to students, and to former employees under her supervision, this week with her passing. To the family of Patty Flowers I send you my prayers, sympathy and appreciation for you sharing her with all of us at Connersville High School.

    I was an old student from connersville indiana high school graduated in 08, Mrs flowers was great principle, she was very sweet lady, she will be gratefully missed, I’m sorry for family loss, hope for piece and comfort to the family in their time and need,
