Nancy Mayes was 86 years old when she was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, August 21, 2014. Nancy Catherine Smith was born in Charlotte, NC to Joseph and Daisy Smith. They were married in August of 1948 while still attending Bob Jones University. After graduating they started their life ministry together, serving the Lord and their family. In 1965 the family moved from Henry River, NC to Indianapolis, IN.

Nancy had six children: Lamont (Bucky) Mayes III, deceased (Joyce), Kathy Thom (Steve), Dan Mayes (Libby), Mary Bryan (Gus), Tim Mayes (Teresa), Jane Herin (Dave). She is also survived by her 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Nancy’s greatest joy in life was being with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

I would like to take this time to send my condolences to the Mayes Family. In difficult times like these as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I draw comfort from God’s word, the Bible. One scripture in particular that brings me comfort is found at Revelation 21:4 which says:

“And He (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

You can find more comforting information at our website jw.org.
