Minnie Katherine (West) Martin, 88, of Brownsburg, passed peacefully to Heaven after a long fight with a terminal pulmonary condition on January 9, 2019. Minnie was born in Evansville, IN on June 17, 1930 to Alma and John West. She was the youngest of 4 children. In 1951, Minnie left Evansville and moved to Washington DC where she worked in several different settings as a secretary. Returning to Evansville in 1964, Minnie then worked as a vocational teacher, teaching the secretarial skills she had developed to adults. She would retire from teaching in 1977; however, she would not completely retire from working until the age of 75. In February of 1976, she married Wilbur H. Martin and together they would travel coast to coast and north into Canada working as bus trip tour guides. She and Wilbur were “fan-favorites” and often had repeat travelers on their trips. With her infectious smile; Minnie never met a stranger in all of her 88 years. In the midst of her darkest days, she made it a point to spread kindness and encourage those around her to do the same.
Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and loving husband. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Jim) Morphew and granddaughter, Shelby K. Morphew. Aunt Grandma Minnie also leaves behind a number of extended family members, near and far.
A Celebration of Life will be at Calvary United Methodist Church in Brownsburg, IN on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 4-7 pm with a memorial service immediately following at 7 pm.
Tommy & Holly Hembree says
We loved our “Aunt Grandma Minnie” and will dearly miss her and her life stories. She was such a precious, lovely lady and we will miss having her at our family gatherings. We were truly blessed to have her in our lives and to have her as extended family.
Dave and Linda Morphew says
She was our “Minnie Mom” after our Mom passed way. She was one Sweet Lady, always upbeat, and so happy. I remember when she was 86 or 87, she got on the back of a motorcycle, and everybody took pictures, she had the biggest smile
