Michael Eric Page, 57, died in his Indianapolis home surrounded by his family on February 11, 2017.  Mike was diagnosed with a Gliosarcoma Multiforme brain tumor in January 2016. He was born on Feb. 4, 1960 in the central Indiana town of New Castle to John S. Page (b. 1929) and Mary Dean (Burchett) (b. 1933). He began his formal education at Westwood Elementary, where he had many teachers who would influence his life. Mike graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School in 1978 and went on to attend Butler University, graduating cum laude in 1982 with a major in Political Science. He later earned a master’s degree from Thunderbird School of International Management in 1986. However, Mike never stopped learning and, after his diagnosis, began studying Spanish and adopted the mantra, “cada día es un regalo (every day is a gift).” Mike began his professional career in the surety industry with Aetna Surety Company. Over his career, he worked for St. Paul Fire and Marine, USF&G, Peerless Insurance, RLI Insurance Company, The Guarantee Company of North America, and finally, CNA.

Mike’s years of hard work enabled him to support the greatest joy of his life: his family. Mike was immensely proud of his three children who he encouraged to “follow their hearts” and supported in all activities and pursuits. He was married to the love of his life and college sweetheart, Leslie Page, who accompanied him on adventures to Europe, South America and Mexico, to outdoor concerts and movies and through 33 years of true partnership. Mike’s latest joy was his grandson, Samuel, who brought so much light to his last year of life. He also understood the importance of friendship and cultivated life-long relationships from his time in Newcastle and Indianapolis. He loved to get together with friends to reminisce about days in the Delt House, share beers at Polka Boy concerts and eat brunch at Moe and Johnny’s.

Mike’s other great love was sports. He was a loyal White Sox fan and supporter of Butler Basketball. Mike was happy to return to the Butler Tarkington area, where a network of people helped him to attend games late into his illness. Mike also fulfilled a lifelong dream when he participated in the White Sox Fantasy Baseball camp in January 2016. Mike is remembered well for helping others to enjoy sports through playing Unified basketball and coaching the rec league at First Baptist Church, where he was known for giving all kids a shot.

Mike demonstrated immense love, strength and grace during his illness and will be remembered by his friends and family as the most honorable, kindest and loving of people. Mike is survived by his wife, Leslie Page; children, Laura Page Goodwin, Sarah Page and Patrick Page; his son-in-law, Thomas Goodwin; grandson, Samuel Goodwin; brothers Anthony Page and Douglas (Millie) Page and beloved dog, Henry.

A memorial service will be held at the All Souls Unitarian Church – Indianapolis on Saturday, Feb. 18th at 2:00 PM. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in Mike’s name to the American Brain Tumor Association: http://hope.abta.org/goto/MichaelPage.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family. Isaiah 33:24 mentions a wonderful future time when “no resident will say: I am sick.” Until that time, may the God of all comfort support you in this time of sorrow. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4

The Skochdopole family reflects back on the time spent with Mike at First Baptist and throughout Indiana playing baseball. Mike was such a great coach and friend. His love of baseball and his family were so contagious. His impact and life will always bring a smile and a fond memory to us. Love the Skochdopoles

As a coworker of Mike’s years ago, I and many others in the insurance world kept close ties with him up to now. We speak of his love for people and his infectious laugh. While we all will miss Mike, certainly a piece of him stays with us and we are better for having known him.

My condolences to Leslie and the entire Page family. Mike was my friend, business associate and frequent golf partner for over twenty years. I relied upon Mike’s advise and counsel more times than I can count. He was always willing to extend himself personally and professionally and I will miss him and our spirited Cubs vs. Sox discussions.

I knew Mike in Junior Hi – he always had a smile on his face and brought me to tears (of laughter) many times. Truly one of the NICEST people I have ever had the pleasure to know. I am so sorry for the loss – to all who know him and to the world. Peace to all who miss him.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Mike many years ago at USF&G in Indy and we stayed in touch over the years since. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike. Whenever we’d talk over the years he’d always leave me with a smile on my face. I will keep your family in my prayers during this difficult time.
