Michael Andrew Thibault, 45, of Indianapolis, Ind., died on Sunday, November 5, 2017.  He was born in Indianapolis on June 18, 1972, and was a lifelong resident.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Lisa (Gebken) of 19 years; daughters Genevieve, Sophie, and Lucy; parents Tom and Ann Thibault; siblings Stephen (Kathleen) Thibault of Foster City, Calif., Catherine (Adam) Thacher of Bakersfield, Calif., and Janet (Christy) Thibault of Charleston, S.C.; nephews Dominic and Colin Thibault and Henry and Oren Thacher; niece Cecilia Gebken; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Delor and Evelyn Thibault and Robert and Mary Kennedy.

After Mike graduated from Cathedral High School, he attended Wabash College, double-majoring in history and French. He pledged Delta Tau Delta Fraternity while at Wabash. Later in life, after discovering a love for food and cooking, Mike graduated from Harrison College Culinary Arts Program with highest distinction. He became an avid culinarian who loved to cook for his family and friends.

Mike was a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle. He was also a Minisino in Firecrafter, and a Vigil Honor member in the Order of the Arrow.

Mike was an active member of St Monica Catholic Church and was involved in many ministries including RCIA, Sunday School Religious Education, and Marriage in Focus. He and his family also volunteered frequently at Holy Family Shelter. He was also very involved in his daughters’ activities—coaching soccer and cheering them on at cross country meets, volleyball games, musical performances and Girl Scouts activities.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his humor—he could always find a way to make you laugh – and his intellect.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 12 from 5-8pm at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd., and Monday, November 13 from 11am-12pm at St Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Rd.  A funeral mass will be held at 12pm, followed by burial at Union Chapel Cemetery and mercy meal at St Monica.

Contributions in memory of Mike can be made to Holy Family Shelter, 907 N Holmes Ave., St Monica Sunday School Religious Education, 6131 Michigan Rd., or a scholarship fund for his daughters: https://www.gofundme.com/thibault-scholarship-fund.

  38. Eric Bynum says

    November 11, 2017 at 5:10 PM

Tom, Ann, Steven, Cathy & Janet, and Lisa, Genevieve, Sophie & Lucy. Please know how deeply saddened and sorry I am to hear about Mike’s passing. When the Bynums moved to Roseway Dr in 1976, Mike was the first one to come over to check out the new kids in the neighborhood — he and I just became instant friends. We bonded over Star Wars action figures, Legos, and Atari games — Mike was brilliant at concocting universes that I loved spending time with him in. Although we went our different paths as we grew older, I often thought of Mike, especially when sharing new Star Wars movies with my own kids.

I’m truly sorry I didn’t get a chance to see Mike again — but I will always love him as my best-friend from grade school, I will always feel privileged to have known him, and I will always remember him as the kindred 7-year-old spirit who knew and cherished the galaxy far far away as I did.

My thoughts will be with all of you, always.

Ann, Tom, Steve, Kathy, Janet, Lisa and your daughters, I was shocked and saddened to see Mike’s death in the paper. All the Thibaults were one of my very favorite families at St. Simon but it was Mike I met first when he was in my homeroom the first year I taught. He always stood out as an excellent and engaged student even though he wrote so small it taxed my eyesight. You will all be in my prayers and I hope you have many happy memories of Mike to sustain you during and after your grieving time. The angels have him now. God Bless
