Mary Weaver, 95, born 10-1-1920 to Lewis Jefferson Borders and Arizona (Bolin) Borders in a rural area of Kentucky, passed on 5-16-16 at home surrounded by her family per her final request.

She was married to high school classmate George Morris “Bill” Weaver on Oct. 3, 1942 in Morgantown. He proceeded her in death in October 1999.

Also proceeding her in death were siblings Ray Borders, Maude Worland, Helen Tucker and (infant sister) Elsie Borders.  She and her siblings grew up on the Garshwiler farm near Trafalgar after their mother passed away and attended Union Township School.  Mary moved to Morgantown during high school and lived with the Earl Hickey family who became family to her for the remainder of her life.  After graduating from Morgantown HS, she graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.  She then worked at Bartholomew Co. Hospital, Camp Atterbury Medical Center and finally Johnson Co. Memorial Hospital as the Assistant Director of Nursing and Night Supervisor.  She delivered hundreds of babies before the doctors arrived during the night shift.

Her children are Beverley Weaver Rossell, Dr. Nancy Jadallah, Karen Weaver (deceased) and Michael Weaver.  Her grandchildren are Elizabeth Rossell, Mary Jones and Elana Jadallah.
There are 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

As a nurse, she was always “on call” for friends and neighbors for care and support.  Many people requested that she be with them during childbirth or medical procedures.

Like many Hoosiers, she was an avid “mushroom hunter” and enjoyed yearly trips with Dad and friends to Michigan and Wisconsin to hunt the elusive morels.  Her nephew Larry Borders always made sure she got a “mess” every year after she was no longer able to hunt any more.

Like many, Mom was an avid basketball fan, following IU, the Pacers, Morgantown and Indian Creek HS games, always sitting with her friend Mary Renner right behind the scorer’s table at the HS games.  They were known to let the refs know when they disagreed with the calls, even taking a swipe at them on occasion.

Mary made sure her children were well-read and educated.  All four attended college.  She also made sure they traveled, going on yearly summer road trips to various places in Florida and California.

She enjoyed working on her perpetual tan, keeping an immaculate house and lawn, crocheting afghans and baby sets for friends, family and strangers.  In retirement, she and Dad enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruit from their orchard with everyone, especially the apple cider.
Mary also enjoyed assisting with the cooking at her children’s The Vault Cafe in Morgantown.  She was known for her “cheese pies”,  fruit tarts and cakes.

Contributions may be made to the Mary Weaver Nursing Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 2- Morgantown In 46160.  A yearly scholarship will be awarded in her honor to a student from Indian Creek HS who intends to study nursing.

So sorry to hear of her death. I worked with her off an on during my days as a Student Nurse and Registered Nurse at Johnson Memorial Hospital in the late sixths, seventies and early eighties. May she rest in peace.
