
December 12, 2014, Mary Bowman (Mary Hays) died of natural causes in Indianapolis.
Mary, born December 6, 1928, in Peru, Nebraska, to Louise and June Hays’ was the 2nd of 11 children. Mary lived on their family farm until her early 20’s she when she moved to San Francisco, California. Mary was one of the original pioneering business computer operators is the San Francisco’s Emporium-Capwell department store where she met her husband, Harry, who was a computer engineer. Harry latter became a noted Nuclear Physicist at the Berkley/Livermore Radiation Laboratories. Mary and Harry settled in Walnut Creek, California where she was an elementary school librarian for many years.
Her husband Harry and brother Floyd preceded Mary in death. Mary is survived by six sisters, three brothers; daughters Laura (David) and Diana (Stephen), son Richard (Adriana); and her grand children Rebecca Worrell, Mathew Worrell, Brienna Kelley-Worrell, Jack Friend, Sara Friend, Allison Bowman, Kimberly Bowman and Martina Pavlova.
Mary was equally adept using a spade, miter box, sewing machine and paintbrush creating an elegant home life. Her passion for family and her wisdom shed a sophisticated and beautiful beacon of light for us all.
Mary recently relocated to Westminster Village in Indianapolis, Indiana. She will be buried at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.
