Mary Catherine Diggs Johnson, January 15, 1929 – March 21, 2014. It is with great sadness and heartache that our mother, Mary Catherine Diggs Johnson passed away March 21, 2014. Our mom and dad were married 56 years before his passing October 15, 2005. When he passed, she lost a part of herself, missing him more each day. She passed away peacefully joining him in Heaven where they are together in eternity.
While attending high school at Tech, she was an avid tennis player and bowler. She loved going to school, speaking fondly of her high school friends and teachers, and remembering her classmates and teachers at school No. 9, not missing a day and receiving a perfect attendance record. She worked as a secretary throughout her life, enjoying her job in the Prosecutors office, meeting interesting people and getting a firsthand look of what was going on in the City of Indianapolis. Gardening, antiquing, walking, working in the yard and watching the Colts and Pacers play were her favorite hobbies.
She was preceded in death by our dad, Norman Johnson, her parents Paul and Opal Diggs, and her sister Betty Diggs Mendez. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Johnson Feaster (John), Scott Johnson (Lorna), Susan Johnson, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, her dear sister in law Donna Johnson Ray (Clayton), brother in law Carol Johnson (Annie) and her nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mary and Norman will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville, IN
God bless you mom, we love you and will miss you dearly.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear”.

So sorry you lost your best friend and mother. I know this is a very hard time for you and your family. At least you have each other to lean on. Your mom was a beautiful woman inside and out. I hope your heart finds peace in knowing she’s in Heaven with your dad. Much love and know that my prayers are with you and your family.

To the family of Mary…Bless you all! I am sending this for my mom, Anita Moore, widow of Bill Moore. She saw the obituary & insisted she knew your mom. Your dad’s name was not mentioned in the obit, but my parents both attended Tech & my dad had a Marine Corps buddy, Norman Johnson, who stood with my dad at my parent’s wedding, 1954. Dad died in 2009, 54 years together. Mom gets confused, but I believe she has a connection with your mom from the past. In any event, our hearts, love & prayers go out to your entire family.
Betty (Dean) Sutton says
So sorry to learn of the loss of your mother. We were great friends at Tech, and later worked together at Farm Bureau Co-Op shortly after graduation. Had lost contact for a number of years, but reconnected within the last two years. Mary was an attendant at my wedding some 61 yrs. ago. Her passing has brought back many fond memories.
May God Bless You and Your Family at this time of Loss.
