Marion was born on August 5, 1921 to Ruskin F. and Cora Belle (Miller) Rowe in Corydon, Indiana. She later moved to Indianapolis where she met the love of her life, Charles S. Doades. After taking instructions in the Catholic Church, they were married on February 1, 1941, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Marion was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Bette Schwimmer; Peggy Wiggs and Patricia Fields.
Marion is survived by:
Children: Michael S. (Judy) Doades, Sherry Lynn (George) Bullis, Patricia L. (John) Hill, Rebecca A. Phillippi, Charles T. (Tim) Doades, and Mary Frances Metacarpa.
Grandchildren: Kimberly (Robbie) Rodriguez, Lena (Kevin) Lambeth, Matthew (Krystal) Doades, Jennifer Gest, Kevin Ringwalt, Justin (Jennifer) Doades, Marc (Janet) Doades, Christiana Doades and Jeffrey (Janet) Metacarpa.
Great-grandchildren: Ashley and Ava Doades, Jenni (Jake) Sitz, Michael John Ringwalt, Joshua Gest, Sidney Gest, Jeff Metacarpa and Alivia Rodriguez.
A stay-at-home mother for most of her life, Marion was the manager of the Ross & Young ticket booth (which was located in the former Glendale Mall) for several years before retiring and was a member of the ticket sellers union in Indianapolis.
Throughout the years, Marion was very active in both church and social activities. She was an active member of the Women’s and Mother’s Clubs of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where she also served as a Girl Scout leader. While in Indianapolis, Marion and Charlie were members of the St. Pius X Council Knights of Columbus. As an Auxiliary member, Marion and her friends spent many hours decorating the council for dances and various social events at the Council.
Marion, Charlie and family spent several wonderful summer vacations at the Windemere camp located in the Ozark Mountains. Marion enjoyed catching up on her reading and fishing with Charlie, while the children swam, caved and fished. In later years, the younger family members enjoyed vacations with Mom and Dad in Newago, Michigan.
As the children grew older, Marion and Charlie spent several vacations in Florida with lifelong friends, Bill and Frances Haynes. These vacations led to the purchase of their retirement home on Key Largo, where their neighbors were Faye and Leroy Warriner, C.B. and Susie Smith, Ted and Emily Cullen, Woody and Janet Woodward, among many others. They enjoyed 17 wonderful years before Charlie passed away on September 26, 1992.
While living in Key Largo, Marion became active in the Key Players, a theater group, where she produced plays and designed sets while Charlie handled tickets sales. Marion always loved cooking and baking and her talent resulted in trophies received from many cooking/baking contests. She was so good at baking pies, that her Christmas gift to one of their many friends in Key Largo was a “pie of the month” certificate – which the recipient never stopped enjoying or talking about!
Marion was also very artistic. Memories of her neighborhood (Broad Ripple) and family trips to Michigan were among the images she captured in watercolors.
Marion was very proud of the birthday greetings she received in years past from: Governor Frank O’Bannon, Senator Evan Bayh, Mayor Bart Peterson, and Mayor Greg Ballard. These framed letters were proudly displayed at her 90th birthday celebration held at the White River Yacht Club.
Marion will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
The family is requesting donations be made to Gleaners Food Bank, 3737 Waldemere Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46241.

We were saddened to hear of Marion’s passing through a friend on Facebook. She was a wonderful and joyful person who always had time to speak to everyone. Beth has memories from her younger days, spending time with Marion’s daughter Becky at Marion and Charlie’s home in Broad Ripple. As a couple, we fondly remember Marion’s “90th” Birthday Party at the Yacht Club. Having lost Court’s Mother on September 7th of this year, we are in touch with your feelings of loss and will keep the family in our prayers.
