
A funeral service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ, located at 8916 E. Troy Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46239 on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 5 pm. Friends and family may visit from 3 pm until the service time of 5 pm.
Marie Christine Ostermeier Hoover, nee Schakel, 100, returned home to her Lord and Savior on November 1st, 2016, just 22 days shy of her 101st birthday. Marie was born in Five Points, Indiana on November 23rd, 1915 to Henry A. Schakel and Ida A. Lea Schakel.
Marie lived in Cumberland with her husband Louis Ostermeier, to whom she was married for 38 years until his passing. She then lived in Indianapolis with her husband Earl, to whom she was married for 13 years until his passing. She had worked at Underwriters Adjusting Company, where she met her second husband Earl.
After retiring from Underwriters, she assisted the Church Secretary at St. John United Church of Christ, served as Recording Secretary for the Church Consistory Board, and Financial Secretary for the church. She also loved baking cookies for the youth of the Church, the kids in Cumberland for Halloween, and for the St. John Mission Trips to Kentucky.
She was recognized on her 100th Birthday by the Town of Cumberland, her State Senator, Patricia Miller, and the Honorable Mike Pence, Governor.
She was a member of St. John UCC in Cumberland for years and later a member of Zion UCC Troy Ave. in Indianapolis.
Marie is survived by her son, Mark Ostermeier, grandchildren Ann-Marie Ostermeier, Christian Ostermeier, Kristen (Jeff) Broome, and Steven (Debby) Brooks and family, great-grandchild Camille, and numerous other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Ida, brother Henry “Heinie” Schakel, husbands Louis and Earl, son James Ostermeier, and other loved ones.

Troy Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46239 on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 5 p.m. Friends and family may visit from 3 p.m. until the service time of 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion UCC, or to St. John UCC, 11910 E. Prospect St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46239.
