Marianne E. Tonges 95, passed away on November 13, 2014. She was born on December 10, 1918 in Payne, Ohio to the late Donald Parady and Mary Grube. She participated in nurses training at the School of Nursing of Maumee Valley Memorial Hospital, Toledo, Ohio prior to serving as a First Lieutenant in United States Army during World War II as a nurse on general duty and orthopedics with the 148th General Hospital Unit, Army Nurse Corps. After World War II, Marianne moved to Chicago, Illinois and graduated from the University of Chicago, with a B.A. degree in 1952. Moving to Fort Wayne, Marianne continued her professional career as a Registered nurse. Marianne was instrumental in planning and managing the surgical post anesthesia room. She married Carl F. Tonges on August 21, 1966. After retiring, Marianne volunteered in her community providing numerous services including nursing, tutoring in local schools and singing with the Shepherd’s Singers and others. Marianne, an extremely intelligent, energetic, loving wife, stepmother and grandmother, will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Survived by her grandchildren, Alan Griffin, Cynthia Dawson, Lori Luke, Phillip Griffin; great-grandchildren, Adam, Thomas, Jacob, Samantha, Seth and Luke; sister, Jeanne McWilliams; nieces and nephew. Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel , 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250, where her funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Marianne was blessed with a keen wit and love of language; she shared her joy of life with all those around her, volunteering in her community throughout her entire life. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Mount Vernon Education Foundation.
