On October 17, 2016, U.S. Army Major (Ret.) Homer Cantley closed his eyes one last time and peacefully awoke in the Kingdom of Heaven, after an incredible 98 years on this earth. He was born poor in the hills of Brounland, West Virginia coal country to the late Silas and Ellen Cantley. As an 18 year old, he joined the Army as a buck private in the U.S. Calvary. He served in WWII, and had tours of duty in Germany, Korea, and Hawaii. A career military man, he worked his way from private and retired as a Major.

After the passing of his first wife, Lucille; he fell in love again with Ruth, whom he spent over 40 years with until her passing. Together, they owned and operated a Dairy Queen, were avid golfers, drove the Alaskan highway, wintered some in Florida, but mostly in Arizona. They lived a full and adventurous life.

He was also proceeded in death by his son, Major Roger Cantley, and 11 brothers and sisters. Homer is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Wally) Hartman; stepson, Jim (Julie) Antrim; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by Crown Senior Living and Seasons Hospice. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 28th at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W Moore Chapel, with visitation at 11 a.m. cantley-homer
