Lowell Thomas Lumley, 87, passed away on July 6, 2018.  He was born on February 4, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He outlived his parents, Maurice Calvin Lumley and Mildred Schmidt Lumley, and a son, Richard Hendrick Lumley.  He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Penelope Hendrick Lumley and his son and daughter-in-law, David Thomas Lumley and Paulette Calderon Lumley.

Lowell was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church for over fifty years; he served as elder and deacon and sang in the choir.

He was a graduate of Withrow High School (Cincinnati) and the University of Cincinnati where he received a degree in mechanical engineering and was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Tau Beta Pi.  In the fifties, he served three years in the Air National Guard and two years in the Army Security Agency in Washington, D.C.

Lowell was a Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and Indiana.  His professional career was spent in the machine tool and air and hydraulic components industries, primarily with Scott Industrial Systems from which he retired as Vice-President of Sales and Marketing.  He was also associated with Midpro Fluid Power.

Lowell and Pennie traveled widely in the United State and abroad.  They took some thirty-eight trips with Road Scholar (Elderhostel).  In retirement, Lowell volunteered with Executive Service Corp, at Dayspring and on the board of his condominium association.  Over the years he had several avocations:  bicycling, golf (there was a hole-in-one in 1961), reading, playing bridge and, yes, winemaking.

A memorial service will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Blvd., East Drive, Indianapolis, IN, 46220, on Thursday, July 12, 2018.  Calling will begin at 9 am and continue until the service at 11 am.  Memorial gifts may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church and sent to the church or at www.northminster-indy.org/give or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 308, Indianapolis, IN, 46206-0308 or at www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn.  Arrangements are being handled by Indiana Funeral Care, and condolences may be posted at www.Indianafuneralcare.com.

It was a pleasure to serve Lowell as his insurance agent for over 30 years. In that period of time he proved himself to be an individual of high integrity, loyal nature, and was always fair in his dealings. He will be missed, and his memory will be respected.

We will miss Lowell’s warm attitude and jovial expression. I first met Lowell when we judged school science fairs while volunteering with the Executive Service Corps. My impression of him never changed over the 20 years we knew each other. Then as part of the Windridge Condos community Joann and I loved exchanging updates of our activities at community parties. Penny, you and Lowell were a wonderful couple and we grieve for your loss.
