Lawrence E. Brewer, age 97, died January 28, 2019 in Indianapolis. Born in Decatur, IL on November 22, 1921, he resided in Indianapolis since 1968. A graduate of Millikin University, for over 32 years he worked as a credit manager at Sears. After retiring in 1980, he served as both a Real Estate Broker, and a Tax Consultant for H&R Block.
A proud four-year veteran of World War II, he completed many transatlantic crossings returning wounded soldiers to the Port of New York for transfer to VA Centers, and was Past Commander of AMVETS Post 132, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW and the Shrine Legion of Honor.
Past President of the Exchange Club, Scottish Rite, and the Murat Shrine, he was also a volunteer tour guide at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, and a volunteer van driver for the Shriners Hospitals for Children where he was recognized for having driven more miles helping children than anyone else in the region.
He is preceded in death by his parents Earl E. Brewer and Zealious Mae (Carder) Brewer; his brother Lyle; sister Lucille; and Bette, his wife of 47 years.
He is survived by his wife Doris; son Daniel; daughter Elizabeth; their spouses; niece Nellie Kathleen Streeval; and many other extended family members. Service will be Wednesday, February 6 at 12:00 noon, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 West 86th Street, Indianapolis. Private burial will be in Decatur, IL. Arrangements handled by Indiana Funeral Care. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

It is with a sad heart that I was notified of Larry’s passing. Larry was the only living Life Member of the Exchange Club of Indianapolis and our oldest member. I hope to contact the members of the Board of Directors for permission to send flowers and additionally to make a donation to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children – Lexington, another group he and I both support. We are truly sorry to hear of his passing and we will keep everyone in the family in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve your loss. Our condolences to all of family members.
