Lambertus “Bert” Meyer, 63, passed away October 22, 2017 following a long illness. Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1954, Bert immigrated to the US with his parents and brother Pieter in 1957. Four more Meyer children quickly followed and the close family made their home in Indianapolis, spending most of his childhood on Norwaldo Avenue. He attended school 91, Park Tudor School, and graduated from Broad Ripple High School.
Bert served proudly for nearly 2 years in the US Army, stationed for much of it in Germany. After being honorably discharged, Bert began a long and eclectic work career. He was a roofer, a headstone maker, a police officer, and – his favorite – a truck driver. He had a fantastic work ethic and often held two or three jobs at the same time, only retiring when forced to by disability. Bert loved the American military, motorcycles, riding with the Patriot Guard, classic rock, great food, making terrible jokes, science fiction, 
taking long drives, and lively political “debate” (i.e. arguments). He was fiercely passionate about the people, principles, and things he loved and was always eager to engage in a discussion or history lesson. Perhaps his greatest passion was Beth, the love of his life who predeceased him in 2013. We take comfort in knowing they’re reunited on some celestial plane.
Preceding Bert in death were his parents William and Josephina (van Winsen) Meyer and longtime love Beth Myers.
Survivors include daughter Erin Meyer, son 
Charles-Greyson Meyer (fiancé Andy Eichholz); siblings Pieter (Lois) Meyer, Bill (Jim Seals) Meyer, Nancy (Rich) Hawkins, Robert Meijer, and Theresa (David) Walton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Also surviving are his first wife and mother of Erin, Joanna Meyer and second wife and mother of Charlie, Lila Meyer. Bert is also survived by his lifelong friend Bob Slagle and the Holtsclaw family, with whom he grew up and are just like family.
At Bert’s request, there will be no services. Instead, he would love for you to take a drink of your choice in his honor and remember the good times (preferably while listening to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida in its entirety).

May you find great comfort in knowing that Bert is no longer suffering and can feel no pain. Very soon all mankind will live in a world where “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” We will live forever on earth without ever having to worry about sickness or death. Uncle Bert, you were a big part of my youth and a great mentor/motivator throughout my 20 years of military service. My heart breaks to know you are gone but you’ll suffer no more. You will be sorely missed by many.
