Kathleen “Kay” Petrere, 92, passed away on May 28, 2017 in Beech Grove, Indiana.  Kathleen was born November 18, 1924, in Arkansas City, Kansas to Radford E. McCarty and Faye Gillock McCarty. Kathleen and her sister, Paulene, were raised in Arkansas City, KS, then moved to Alamosa, CO, where she graduated from Alamosa High School in 1942. After high school, her family moved to Dearborn, MI where she met her future husband, William V. Petrere and married in 1953. They had two children, Edward and Kathy. Kathleen and her husband owned and operated City Camera Shop until 1975 when they moved to Salem, Indiana and ran Salem Camera Shop until 1993. Kay was a member of the First Christian Church and several organizations including DAR and PEO. In 2001, Kathleen moved to Greenwood to be near her daughter.

When not working, Kathleen was an avid reader, enjoyed doing needlepoint, and loved looking at and discussing art. In her retirement, she volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for a number of years and was also a reading tutor for several students at Greenwood Elementary schools.

She is survived by her sister, Paulene McLaughlin of Trenton, MI; son, Edward Petrere (Evelyn) of Georgetown, T; and daughter, Kathy Petrere of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. Her memorial service will be held on June 17th at St. Paul Hermitage chapel, 501 N. 17th Ave, Beech Grove, IN 46107. Visitation is 5-7 pm with the service at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).

Kathy and Edward, I’m sorry you lost your mother. I thought a lot of Kay and Bill. When mom worked at the camera shop your folks treated her like family.
