Karen Kae Austin, 77, of Indianapolis passed away on March 15, 2016. Karen was a graduate of Rush University School of Nursing in Chicago. She retired from the VA Medical Center in 1995 after 22 years of service, mostly as an RN supervisor. Karen began her nursing career at the IU Medical Center assisting in the very first heart by-pass surgeries. The main two items on Karen’s “bucket list” were to retire at age 55 and take 55 trips with Ambassadair Travel Club. She missed the first goal by 2 years, but far exceeded the second. Her compassion for her patients was exceeded only by her devoted love for her family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years William; daughter Sharon (Don) Wall; son William Jr. (Kim) Austin; and the joy of her life granddaughters Jordan and Mackenzie. She is also survived by her brother Duane (Janet) Sparks and sisters Meredith Roof and Judith Wright. The family will be holding private services. Arrangements: Indiana Funeral Care.
