John Thomas Gerold, 67, passed away Oct. 19, 2017, at home, surrounded by family after an eight-year battle with cancer.

He was born June 19, 1950, at Crawfordsville, to Laurel and Darlene (Stockdale) Gerold. He was a 1970 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.

After school, he served in the United States Navy from 1970-1976, with two of those years in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Truxtun. He was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through Troop 325.

He worked at RR Donnelley & Sons for 39 years and was a member of the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans and Christ’s United Methodist Church.

John married Karen E. Hutchison on May 5, 1973, and she survives. Also surviving are children, Joey Gerold and Jennifer Daugherty, and grandchildren Lakoda Daugherty and T.J. Daugherty, all of Crawfordsville. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine (Jeff) Stewart and brother Larry Gerold, both of Crawfordsville; several nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gregg and Kevin Gerold.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 at Christ’s United Methodist Church, 909 E. Main St., Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with Pastor Judy Early officiating and military rites. Visitation will be held an hour prior to services. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery South, Crawfordsville, IN.
