John Edward Smith, Sr, age 73, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 25, 2016. John was born in Rockford, IL, to Florabel and Frederick Morrison “Morrey” Smith on June 24th, 1943. John retired from IBM Corporation as a financial analyst after 25 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Victoria E. Smith; Children, Ginny Smith, Ed Smith, Tim Smith; Step children, Angela Roberts, Laura Myers, & Greg Hemsley; Grandchildren, Mariah Smith, Zachary Vaughan, Kaitlyn Branch, Jonathan Vaughan, Evan Vaughan, Olivia Smith & Matthew Justice; Great grandchildren, Issac Justice & Galen Justice. He is also survived by his brother Jim Smith & was preceded in death by brother Jerry Smith.
He grew up in Rockford, IL, and Colorado Springs, CO. He loved hunting, fishing, and mountain climbing. He had scaled seven 14,000 foot peaks.
His love of God, good nature and kindness were known by all who loved him. He is at peace with the Lord.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. A funeral service will begin at noon.
