John Martin, age 80, of Avon died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.  Originally from Bloomington, IN, he moved to Indianapolis in 1957 where he worked for OK Trucking Co. He retired in 1995 to do what he loved best, spend time with family and friends and play golf.  He is preceded in death by his dear wife of 58 years, Donna and his brother George. John will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Julie Read (Dan), JD, Jeff, Jayne Dressing (John) and Jason (Karen) and his sister, Mary Lou Bryant. He was Papa to twelve grandchildren, Dani, Jordan, Jackson, Davis, Josie, Jake, Julia, Ian, Norah, Andrew, Nick, Mallory and three great grandchildren, Teagan, Jeremy and Damian.

John was adored by his family and many friends in Bloomington and Indianapolis, as well as, his extended lake family at Tippecanoe Lake where he spent the past 18 summers. He never met a stranger and made friends with everyone from the cashiers at Kroger to the many nurses and doctors who cared for him during his battle with cancer.  He will be fondly remembered for his incredible sense of humor, his “Papa-isms” and his kind and generous spirit.  Every day he was an example of what it means to be a good father, husband, Papa and friend. He is playing corn hole in heaven with a Cuba Libre in hand and “Family Tradition” playing on the radio.

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 29th from 4pm-8pm at Avon Washington Township Park Pavilion, 115 S. C.R. 575, Avon, IN 46123

Those who desire may make a memorial donation in memory of John to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 9075 N. Meridian St., Suite 150, Indianapolis, IN 46260
