Jim Bryant Purnell, was born April 11, 1970 in Peru, IN to his loving parents John and Janie M.(Sims) Purnell, he was their youngest child. He passed away 5:51 am, July 15, 2019 at Howard Community Hospital, Kokomo, IN.
Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptised in 1976 at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church, Kokomo IN. As an adult he rededicated his life while living in Florida.
Jim graduated from Kokomo High School in 1988, where he played football and track. On January 27, 1994 he married his best friend and love of his life Cathy J. Purnell (Bowser). Jim was known as a “Gentle Giant” and could be found helping family and friends with computers, cars, info on new movies and anywhere he could lend his hand. Jim loved creating music, he was multi talented and could play several instruments. He also loved cooking out, fishing and cheering on his favorite team the Green Bay Packers. His family was always his number one priority. JIM was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, nephew, uncle and great friend. He touched the lives of many and he will be so greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife. Cathy J. Purnell (Bowser), his mother Janie M. Purnell, his children; Shanda K. Fowler (Bowser), Shelby L. Purnell, Austin R. Purnell, Jyson B. Purnell. His grandchildren; Lavon Bowser, Rayjon Fowler, Josiah Fowler, Benjamin Hicks II, Kameron Nottingham and Elizabeth Hicks. His siblings; Joel G. & Mary (Bedford) Purnell, Janice K. Purnell, Jerry I. & Tracy (Kenner) Purnell, Jared L. & Staci (Kenner) Purnell, John E. Purnell and a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and aunts.
Jim was preceded in death by his father John Purnell and grandson Dayzon Fowler.
Viewing will be 10 – 12, with services starting at 12:00 pm Friday July 19, 2019 at Mt Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 1599 E Sycamore St with Pastor Lonnie E Anderson officiating. A burial service will follow at Crown Point Cemetery immediately after service.

My brother from another mother, we laughed and played together, played football and video games. Growing up together like brothers. I did everything at the house except sleep, losing you is going to hard to understand because of you were a fantastic person. God is receiving the gentle giant. Rest my brother your race is done….. To the family, hearing the news of Jim’s passing was unexpected for me. It may have surprised me but God is never caught off guard. Rest assured Jim is in the hands of the Lord.
