JEAN PETERSON, 95

Jean Peterson, 95, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away July 20, 2015 in Indianapolis, IN.

A short memorial service will be held  at  Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory ;Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, in Indianapolis, on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 , at 5 p.m., with a visitation to follow from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held in the Chicago area on September 19, 2015 at Ridgewood Memorial Park and Cemetery, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, Illinois, at 10:00 a.m.

Jean’s mother was Ella Agnes Cornwall, and she is survived by her loving sister, Ethel (“Babe”) Sharpe of Pennsylvania.  Jean was married to Elmer (“Pete”) Peterson who passed away in 2004.  Jean had two daughters, Donna Grotz of Indianapolis, Indiana (married to Mike Grotz), and Joelle Peterson of Estes Park, Colorado (married to Ned Seguin).  Jean’s grandchildren are Renee Elliott of Indianapolis (married to Scott Elliott of Indianapolis) and Bryan Grotz of Indianapolis.  Jean was also very fond of Kelsey Haynes of Indianapolis, IN.

Jean went to Shurz High School in Chicago, IL and was double promoted twice.  She was known as “Jeanie with the neat notebook”.    When Jean was in high school she worked at a bakery, and was always able to recite the price of every item in that bakery.   Jean took piano lessons, and eventually made a career as a piano teacher.  Prior to teaching piano, Jean worked as an executive assistant/office manager for the Armstrong Bray company, and also worked for the Pullman Company during the war.  Jean spent most of her life in Chicago, IL and Mt. Prospect, IL.

Jean had fond memories of spending holidays with her cousin, Judy, and her family and her Aunt Ethel.  She was also very close to her sister-in-laws; Helen, Lucille and Shirley.  Jean and Pete enjoyed many post-retirement vacation trips with endeared good friends and neighbors.  One of her favorite places to visit was Door County, Wisconsin.

Jean and Pete were very active members at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect where she volunteered as a Stephen Minister.  She enjoyed children, and volunteered with Oasis to read to children who were struggling with reading.

Jean was a remarkable and elegant woman. The music she taught and shared with her students and family will live on as they enjoy an appreciation of music, and the lovely melodies of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation at www.wish.org.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living at Fall Creek for their support in her final days.
