Janet Lorraine Sansing Witherspoon was born June 8, 1934 in Chicago, IL to the union of Dossie L. Sansing and Lula Pryor Sansing.

Lorraine (as she was always known as) is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dossie; sisters, E. June and Mattie Belle; grandson, Manchumu (Juan Kip).

Lorraine was educated in the Indianapolis Public School System, attending School #37, #26, and Crispus Attucks High School.

On August 27, 1950 Lorraine and Aaron Witherspoon were united in marriage and to this union 3 children were born.

As a teenager Lorraine’s first job was at Kerr’s Restaurant which she was very proud to have at such an early age.  Later she worked for the City County Building and Wishard Hospital.

Although it was more convenient for Lorraine in her later years to attend other churches her membership and heart stayed rooted in St. Paul AME Church where she was very active in Jr. church (as a child) Sunday School, Choirs, St. Paul Aides and The Stewardness Board.  She loved her Lord, her church and her family.  Her God given talent was writing poetry which she left as a legacy for her love ones to cherish.  Lorraine remained steadfast in her faith and finished her course in life with great courage, endurance, and perseverance.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but especially by her devoted granddaughter La’keia “Lady” who felt the sun rose and set on her grandma.

Janet Lorraine Witherspoon departed this earthly life on Thursday morning October 27, 2016 at the age of 82 years, 4 months, and 21 days.

She leaves to celebrate her home going: Aaron Witherspoon; son, Tony (Karen) Witherspoon; daughters, Denise Ananda and Jill Witherspoon; sister, Odessa; brother, Howard (Georgia); ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at St. Luke’s Missionary Baptist Church, 5325 E. 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218
