Janet Lorraine Hale was born to Lanese Looper Radford and Lemuel Radford, Jr. on May 28, 1949 in Indianapolis, In. She was baptized as a young girl at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church, later attending 2nd Christian Church.
Janet graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She was employed over 25 years with the Federal Government until retiring due to the progression of Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).
Janet was married to Charles Hale, now deceased. They were the parents of Shannon Rene Hale. She enjoyed making jewelry, writing, poetry, video games and quiet daily meditations. Janet also enjoyed meeting people, communicating and socializing. Regarding her illness, would state: “there are people worse off than me.” She was comforting, kind and consoling with a keen sense of humor. Janet was a devoted mother and family member.
Janet peacefully transitioned on December 31, 2018 at 8:45 p.m. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Shannon Rene Hale. Remaining siblings include her sisters Lucille Maul, Shirley Finley, Carol Priest and Vera Radford and a brother Phillip Raymond Radford. She is predeceased by her parents Lemuel and Lanese Radford, brothers Carl E. Radford, Sr., Frederick Sterling Radford, sisters Barbara B. Dunn, Ann Marie Ford and a special cousin Sylvia Yvonne Looper Smith. She will be missed and remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with Celebration of Life service at noon Thursday, January 10, 2019, Emmaus Christian Church, 3919 Lafayette Road, Suite 232, Indianapolis, IN 46254.
The family extends sincere thanks to all of the caregivers who attended to Janet. Special thanks to Dr. Pazcuzzi and the entire ALS team at the neuroscience center, St. Vincent’s Hospice Team, Great Lakes Hospice Team, Dr. Kalu and his team at Allisonville Health Care.
