James “Jim” Edwin Farmer of Greenfield, IN, passed away on February 28, 2019 after a long illness. He was 76 years old.
Jim was born May 22, 1942 in Greenfield, IN and graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1960. Upon graduation, he devoted over 30 years to the automotive dealership industry, starting as a mechanic and working his way up to General Service Manager positions. He was a crew member of a Porsche racing team, and served in the National Guard from 1960 to 1967.
Gifted with exceptional mechanical aptitude, Jim carried this skill into his family life. He converted a section of his barn into a workspace he called “The Shop”, and spent countless evenings and weekends teaching his sons how to build and repair motorcycles and cars.
During retirement, Jim owned a lawn mowing business, restored antique tractors, and enjoyed gardening, camping with his wife, Sharon, and visiting his children and grandchildren.
His family and friends will remember Jim’s quick wit, ability to get to the “heart of the matter”, and humor combined with a boisterous laugh. His family will miss his fervent devotion and keen advice.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Farmer (Olin), of Greenfield; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Torri Farmer, of Fishers; his son, Mike Farmer, of Fishers; his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jim Stewart, of Briarcliff, NY; his four grandchildren Aiden and Keeley Farmer, and Sam and Matt Stewart; his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Duane Stoner, of Plainfield; and his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Kalah Farmer, of Greenfield. He also is survived by his children’s’ mother, Mary Link, of Indianapolis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Irene Farmer, of Greenfield.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who want to give to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
