Howard Stanley “Stan” Holifield was born on July 7, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois; the oldest child of Bettye and Howard Holifield. The family later made their home in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Howard attended Indianapolis Public Schools #36 and #53; he graduated from Arlington High School and attended IUPUI. Howard was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier for 32 years before retiring in 2011. He was blessed with one daughter Tiffany R. Holifield. Howard met and married Debra Hughley in 1991; they enjoyed 27 years of marital bliss. Howard dearly loved his daughter Tiffany and his three grandchildren. He was a hardworking provider for his family.
Howard had a green thumb and loved gardening; he also enjoyed bowling and was an avid reader. He watched all types of sports, with basketball being his favorite spectator sport. Howard was an intellectual, a philosopher, a great debator; stubborn- always had to have the last word. He was helpful in offering a better idea of how things should be done.
Howard departed this life on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the age of 64 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Bettye and Howard. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Debra; daughter Tiffany; sister Shelley; brother Steve; his grandchildren Christina, Kevin and Taylor; as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins, an uncle, aunt, and in-laws, along with numerous friends.

Dear family of Mr. Holifield;
When I saw the notice of Mr. Holifields passing , I wanted to just send a note of condolences. I did not know him personally, but thought it would be ok to just say I am sorry this happened. I also have had dear ones pass away. My hope is that you have family and friends comforting you . What helped me was one Bible verse. Many think the Bible is too old , but perhaps you will find comfort in it.
Revelation 21:4 “ and He will wipe out every tear… and death will be no more…”
He doesn’t want us to suffer, and has plans to make a change.

Debbie, I am emotional drained to learn about my friend. My first response was to drop every thing and drive to Indianapolis, but present circumstances have prevented that. Howard was my friend since I was 14, he knew me, the good and the ugly. I live in Gulfport now and when I read the Indianapolis paper and saw the obituary shock and grief grabbed hold of me. I’m better now, after spending time remembering the good times, I had a final salute to my friend…, Howard would understand. My sincere love and blessings to you and the entire family -Rev. I would like to offer the family of Howard Holifield condolences in their time of sorrow for his untimely passing. I never me you (the family) but I had the pleasure of working with Howard for 25 years at the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter-carrier. I was his T-6 (meaning I replaced him when he was off) for 10 years. Howard was well respected and liked by his co-workers and Supervisors alike. I have since retired too, but I am sure those who worked with him personally at the Post Office feel your since of loss and mourn with you.

My mother and I offer our condolences as well. Howard was my mother’s mailman right before he retired. I remember being at her house one day when he came. I kept looking at him because I thought I remembered him from Bacon Station. Come to find out, my mother knew his people. Howard would always stop and chat with her whenever she was sitting on the porch. She really appreciated that. Rest on Howard. You will be missed. Praying for thee family. May God comfort you in the days to come.

Stan was always kind, caring, respectful, and a brother type to me. I am deeply touched by the news of his passing on. But knowing Stan he is very “chill” about the whole thing. One of the coolest guys you will ever meet! Steve and Shelley I am thinking of you and wishing you
great comfort in the days ahead.
Much Love!
