
Herschel DeVere Polter, age 83, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on May 30, 2016. He was born May 7, 1933 to Walter and Cora (Zelner) Polter in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Warren Central High School. In 1951 and attended University of Indianapolis, formally Indiana Central. He worked for the Indianapolis Post Office for 32 years. He was a member of Emerson Avenue Baptist Church since the early 1950s.
Herschel is survived by Ruth (Buckhorn) Polter, the love of his life for 61 years; son, Brian (Mechelle) Polter of Indianapolis; daughter, Yvonne (Terry) Clifford of Cloverdale; grandchildren, Amanda Ferguson, Amber (David) Lightle, Briana Polter, Colton Polter, Adrianna Clifford, and Destiny Polter; and great grandchildren, Zoe Ferguson, Savannah Lightle, Arabella Lightle, Aileana Lightle and D. Tynlee Lightle. He was preceded in death by both parents, and a son, Walter Frederick Polter, who died shortly after birth.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial service at 4 pm on June 11th at Emerson Ave Baptist Church.
