
Helen Eastes Kottlowski, 89, of New Palestine passed away April 6, 2017.
Helen was born May 18, 1927 to Virgil and Ethel (Raesner) Logan.
She grew up with her sister Jean, her mother and her Raesner grandparents during her school years. She graduated from New Palestine High School, and attended classes at IU and Butler. She went back to nursing school when she was in her 50’s to graduate. She was a nurse for Dr. Pierson in New Palestine before marrying Wayne Eastes in 1950. They raised their daughters in Mt. Comfort. Helen also worked for Indiana Employment Security Division and for Will-Mair Interiors before retiring from Methodist Hospital in 1989.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Biz-Z-B Home Ec Club, and The Red Hat Society. She was an avid seamstress and won awards. She loved crafting, baking, nature, birds, animals, her pets and gardening. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday and she was famous for her fantastic family meals. She enjoyed helping care for her grandchildren when they were small. She made a mission trip to Ecuador and to Indian reservations in the southwest.
She married her childhood sweetheart Don Kottlowski in 1999 after they were both widowed. They traveled extensively throughout the country. She embraced Don’s family as her own.
Helen was know as a sweet lady with a Christian heart who loved her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, William and Blanche Raesner and Ralph and Carrie Logan; her husband of 49 years, Wayne Eastes; her husband, Donald Kottlowski; and her sister, Jean Spencer.
Surviving are her daughters, Teri Eastes Gunst and Janis Eastes; grandchildren, Anne Gunst and David Gunst; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Jack) Berger; nieces, Brenda Spencer, Suzie Spencer, and Vicki (Ken) Yarbrough; nephews, Dan (Teresa) Berger, Steve (Barb) Spencer and Tim (Martina) Berger; step-sons, Don (Rose Marie) Kottlowski, Dan (Karen) Kottlowski, Roger (Michele) Kottlowski, Randy (Charlene) Kottlowski; and the Kottlowski grandchildren, Andy, Tom, Steve, Tim, Aaron, Laura, Kelly, Christopher, Julie, Mary, and Jon.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2017 with a memorial service at 3:30 pm at New Palestine United Methodist Church, New Palestine, IN.
Memorial contributions in honor of Helen may be sent to: New Palestine United Methodist Church or New Palestine Zion Lutheran Church.
