Hazel Allen (Blackwell) was born April 10, 1936 in Brownsville, Mississippi to the parents of Helton and Willie Blackwell (Strickland).
She professed a hope in Christ at a early age. She was a faithful member until her health would not allow her to worship any longer.
She was a woman of dignity and courage. She was a single mom and would always make a way in the most difficult of times. She never complained. In her home no one was a stranger and everyone was welcome. She was a very intelligent woman and very protective of her children. She reminded you of a mother hen. Arms open wide and caring for others even when she didn’t have it to give.
Her career of choice was a domestic engineer and a CNA, not just to her family, but to many families across the cities of Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.
She loved her children and grand-children dearly. She even helped raise her grand children. She loved jewelry, especially rings. She wore one on every finger.
Hazel departed this life peacefully on April 18, 2019, at the age of eighty-three. She was proceeded in death by her parents Helton and Willie Blackwell, brothers Henry, Frank, Elon and Kenneth Blackwell.; Sisters Viella Braddock, Drusilla Blackwell and Cleo Hilliard.
Hazel leaves behind to cherish her memory: Brother Andrew Blackwell(Indianapolis, Indiana) and Sister Cloyes Harwell (Oxford, Mississippi): Children: Rickey (Connie) Blackwell, Michael, Teresa( Mark) Glen, Cherry Buggs, Charles Buggs, Jasper Basir , Jemaine Basir and Dewayne Robertson., and numerous grand children and great-grand children, nieces and nephews, relatives, church family and friends.
Funeral service will be at 12:30pm on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel. 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. Visitation will be he;d prior to service from 9:30am – 12:30pm. Burial to follow at Sutherland Park Cemetery.
