Harold Melvin “Mel” Redmond died peacefully at Morristown Manor in Morristown, IN on December 23, 2018 at the age of 93.
Mel is survived by his daughters, Nancy Fritz of Greenfield, Indiana and Karen Oertel of New Palestine, Indiana. He had 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Baker Redmond of New Palestine Indiana, and daughter, Marcia Springate of Florida.
Mel was born on October 25, 1925 in Greenwood, Indiana to Harold and Lorene Redmond. He attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. He married Norma Baker Redmond in 1951 and they remained married until her death in 2012. He was employed at Western Electric on the east side of Indianapolis and worked there until retirement. Known for his work ethic, he worked following ‘retirement’ for multiple employers in various capacities until the age of 91.
A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday January 2, 2019 in the Harry W. Moore Chapel at 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis IN 46250. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a service to follow at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mel’s life.
