
Gordon Lee Ayres passed away on February 1, 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 78.
Gordon was born on February 7,1936 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1954 and entered the United States Air Force where he served for more than 21 years, receiving numerous medals and commendations, include the Gallantry Cross. He married Alice Manseau (his high school sweetheart) in 1955. After retiring from the USAF he obtained a college degree and taught electronics at Mesa Community College and ITT Technical College. He also worked for Motorola Communication and Electronics with the state and local government sectors.
Gordon had a great love for his family and country, and would openly share with others.
Gordon is survived by wife of 59 years, Alice Mary Ayres, mother Olive Louise Stagner, sisters Lois (Dennis) Ruffin of Littleton Colorado; Dianne (Ray) Dahl of Chelsea, Michigan; daughters Lynne (Bryan) McCoy of Haynesville, Louisiana; Vicki (James) Benson of Indianapolis, Indiana; and son Duane Ayres of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandsons Dion Carrillo of Glendale, Arizona; Derek Modrak of Magnolia, Arkansas; Matthew (Jennifer) Modrak of Little Rock Arkansas, and granddaughters Alyson McCoy of Haynesville, Louisiana and Frankfurt, Germany; and Cecelia Benson of Indianapolis, and great grandsons Timothy Carrillo, Miles Modrak, and great grand daughter Lexoni Weber, as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents Evard V. Ayres and Geneva Ayres, brother Dan (Karen) Stagner, and grandson PFC James McCoy.
Visitation will be held February 7, 2015 at Noon in the Harry W. Moore Chapel at Indiana Funeral Care North followed by a 2:00 pm memorial service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gordon’s life. Memorial donations may be made to Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church Advance where his granddaughter Alyson McCoy is serving.
