In Loving Memory of

Gloria A. Singleton

August 23, 1938 – October 4, 2017

October 14, 2017

Forest Manor Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses

South Hall

4809 East Raymond Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203

Gloria Singleton, daughter of Janie Lee Smith-Singleton and William Henry Singleton, was born August 23, 1938 in Indianapolis, IN.

Gloria received her formal education in the Indianapolis Public Schools system.  She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1957.

Gloria symbolized her dedication to Jehovah by water baptism on May 6, 1968 and later served as a regular pioneer.  She truly enjoyed attending Christian meetings each week and having a regular share in the field ministry, where she was able to tell all whom she met about her God, Jehovah.

She had a love for people. For many years, and until her retirement, she worked as a police Sargent for the Indianapolis Public Schools system.  She enjoyed working with students and staff, and had a great desire to assist any students with whom she worked.  Many of them lovingly referred to her as “Grandma”.

Gloria loved working with her hands.  Her love of that work was evident in the many ceramic pieces she hand-made and had on display in her home.  She also had a love of nature that would often land her in the Smokey Mountains admiring the scenery – everything from the beauty of the vast mountains to the smallest rock.  Her favorite animal was the dolphin, which she was determined to swim with in the coming paradise.

If you could catch her at home, you would find her relaxing by her pool, admiring her garden, or watching the goings-on of the neighborhood from the view of her porch swing.

Gloria enjoyed the company of her friends.  She spent time with them often playing cards and going out to eat.  She also enjoyed spending time with her “adopted” children and grandchildren, who she lovingly referred to as her “posse”. All who knew and loved her would agree she was the kind of person that never, ever left you guessing what was on her mind!

Gloria met no strangers, and was always ready to assist anyone who needed her help.  The loving, round-the-clock care she was given during her final days, by those closest to her, was a testament to the way she lived her life.  She touched so many lives and will be sorely missed.

Gloria Singleton, departed this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, William & Janie Singleton and a sister Dora L. Stevens. She leaves to cherish her memory her cousin, Charlene Gee, her nephew and a host of friends and spiritual family.

151         He Will Call

(Job 14:13-15)

  1. Life, like a mist, appears for just a day,

Then disappears tomorrow.

All that we are can quickly fade away,

Replaced with tears and sorrow.

If a man should die, can he live again?

Hear the promise God has made:

(CHORUS)

He will call; The dead will answer.

They will live at his command.

For he will have a longing

For the work of his own hand.

So have faith, and do not wonder,

For our God can make us stand.

And we will live forever,

As the work of his own hand.

2.  Friends of our God, though they may pass away,

Will never be forsaken.

All those asleep who in God’s mem’ry stay,

From death he will awaken.

Then we’ll come to see all that life can be:

Paradise eternally.

(Repeat Chorus)
